Who are you and what do you do for Kishi?
I'm Blessing Ore but I always prefer to be called “Bee”. I am a content strategist and writer at Kishi.
How did you end up on this career path?
I grew up with three brothers and even though they were my best friends, I still felt a little lonely sometimes. I wanted a sister or at least female friends. I didn't have any of those but I did have a female cousin who I also didn't get to spend so much time with. I ended up spending so much of my time by myself.
As someone who’s introverted, I started writing because I couldn't properly express myself verbally. I started writing poems about how I felt, and then I wrote short stories. After getting positive feedback and encouragement from people, I started my lifestyle blog called theafricanbee.com. I wrote more than I used to and then I started getting paid to write. That was when I figured that I could make a career out of something I love so much.
What inspires you to do what you do?
Everything inspires me. This could mean videos, pictures, a fabric or even a song. What I see and hear helps me to figure out what I could add to or remove from my work. Life in general inspires me. Helping people accomplish their goals and knowing that I'm helping them feel even the slightest bit better inspires me.
Apart from what you do for Kishi, what interests you?
I love to sew and I also enjoy photography. I model from time to time. I love making videos too.
What changes do you think Kishi can make on a global level?
I believe Kishi is such a unique brand, and I feel like both new and already existing companies/brands can learn a lot of cultural values from Kishi. Yes, Kishi’s core value is to help brands express themselves but as a member of the team, you don't get lost while trying to help others. The customer is a priority but you also are. Kishi cares genuinely about the overall well-being of its team. I've worked in toxic environments and this isn't one of them.
What is your all-time favourite movie/tv show?
Anyone who knows me well knows the answer to this. FRIENDS! I love that show. It's so “bad” that sometimes I know the next thing an actor might say in a scene.
If you could meet anybody in the world for dinner, who would it be and why?
My cousin. Why? I miss her. And we didn't get to do all the things we wanted to do while she was alive.
What is your pet peeve?
I'm not a fan of people who lie unprovoked. How do you always have an answer for everything? You know you can use that “creativity” for something positive right? You could write beautiful stories with that brain.
If you had to pick a song and sing every lyric word for word, what song would it be?
Probably Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.
