Who are you and what do you do for Kishi?
I’m Sikemi Bakare and I’m the Graphic Designer of the team. I work on presentations and projects at KISHI
How did you end up on this career path?
I hated my course in school and decided that I had to do something else with my life. I started doing little things on Canva for school programs and found out that Canva was too limiting for me. This led me to the adobe creative suite and I started to take courses that helped me get better at interpreting ideas into tangible visual designs.
What inspires you to do what you do?
I’ve found that I can only do what I enjoy doing for a living. So my inspiration is the luxury to do what I want and make a living out of it. I also enjoy the independence that comes with it. There's nothing like doing what you love and being able to do what you want when you want.
Apart from what you do for Kishi, what interests you?
I enjoy reading and learning about the past and finding out why we behave a certain way. So naturally, I developed a deep interest in history. Another thing I enjoy is travelling because history tells you a lot about places and people so I'm very curious to see historical places and the different ways people live all over the world.
What changes do you think Kishi can make on a global level?
I believe Kishi could bring artistry and ideation to the Nigerian design ecosystem. Because we do not have a solid design history, our designs tend to be a mimicry of western ideas but with the ideas Kishi has and the way it operates, it could bring lasting change for our talented designers. And as for a global scale, I believe Kishi can stamp Nigeria as a place that produces formidable designers
What is your all-time favourite movie/tv show?
I don’t have a specific favourite but I love midnight gospel, new girl, insecure, and modern family to name a few. Majorly lighthearted comedies because life is tough and I can't be crying.
If you could meet anybody in the world for dinner, who would it be and why?
My grandpa. He passed away recently but he was visually impaired and bedridden for years so I'd like to talk with him. I also want him to see how much I've grown.
What is your pet peeve?
I hate it when people are unnecessarily mean, callous and uncaring to those around them.
If you had to pick a song and sing every lyric word for word, what song would it be?
God’s whisper (Raury)
